Why is it important to nourish yang in autumn?

This begins with the special characteristics of the back and its seasonal patterns:

01

The back is the "storehouse of yang energy." If not protected in autumn, it will leak out.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, "the back is yang, and the abdomen is yin." Our backs are home to the Du Meridian (which controls yang energy) and the Bladder Meridian (responsible for detoxification and dispelling cold), acting like the body's "heating pipes" and "drain pipes." With the arrival of autumn, yang energy begins to recede, making it easier for cold air to invade through the back. If not protected promptly, yang energy will leak out, leading to cold hands and feet and recurring colds in winter.

02

Modern people's backs have long been "blocked."

Sitting for long periods at work, looking down at your phone, can cause stiffness in most people's back muscles. This clogs the meridians, preventing the flow of yang energy and the expulsion of cold air. This leads to back heaviness, shoulder pain, and even irritation in the neck and waist. Autumn is the ideal time to "unblock and replenish yang." Taking good care of your back can help you avoid winter illnesses.

Treating your back in autumn indirectly nourishes your lungs and reduces seasonal coughing.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, "the lungs govern the skin and fur, and the back is the home of the lungs." Back health is closely linked to lung function. The dry autumn climate makes the lungs susceptible to external irritants, leading to coughs, dry throat, and other discomforts. Caring for your back can indirectly nourish the lungs, promote the excretion of toxins, and strengthen lung resistance, helping us better cope with the distress caused by autumn's dryness.

How to strengthen our protective shield in advance?

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a simple and effective method: preemptively clear the lung and bladder meridians.

These two meridians act as the body's "windproof net." Once unblocked, the lungs are well-charged, making it difficult for external pathogens to invade.

For the Lung Meridian: Start above the shoulders and gently tap along the inner upper arms to the wrists.

For the Bladder Meridian: Start from the back of the neck and down the sides of the spine, then tap downward to the lower back.

Note: Tap from top to bottom, using moderate pressure. A slight warmth or numbness is sufficient; no need to strive for pain.

This autumn, clear the lung and bladder meridians in a timely manner to strengthen your body's "windproof net" and maximize your vitality!
